A Torquay retirement living community has raised £765 for national charity Breast Cancer Now, thanks to a month of dedicated fundraising.

Sanctuary Retirement Living’s Dunboyne Court, on St Marychurch Road, held a number of events, including marking the charity’s Wear It Pink Day, a contest to guess the name of a pumpkin and a ‘bonus ball’ fundraiser.

The latter saw residents choose a numbered ball and pay £1 a week for five weekly draws with the same number being entered into the draw each time. Proceeds from each winning draw were split 50/50 between the resident and Breast Cancer Now.

Visitors to the Wear It Pink coffee morning could make donations in return for a hot drink and purchase raffle tickets, with prizes donated by the local community including a free window cleaning service. The top prize saw one lucky couple enjoy exclusive use of the service’s Taste restaurant, while being serenaded by cabaret singer Peter ‘Mac’ Dell.

Scheme service manager Vanessa Osborne said: “We’re over the moon to have raised such a large figure for Breast Cancer Now, which has truly surpassed our expectations.

“We’re extremely grateful to our partners in the local community who have risen to the occasion with prize donations and other contributions, and of course to everyone who has donated.”
