Residents at a retirement living service in Brixton have been brushing up on their artistic skills at a crafty new community class.
The hour-long sessions offer residents the chance to paint their own personalised piece of ceramic in a fun, relaxed and sociable environment.
Following on from successful sessions at Sanctuary Retirement Living’s Trellis House in Colliers Wood, Funky Potters will make monthly visits to Hillyard House for six months.
After the first session, resident Valerie Smith said: “I love painting the pottery; it’s very relaxing and therapeutic.”
Ines Silva, activities coordinator at Hillyard House, added: “It’s great to see our residents taking part in something new.
“Sanctuary is committed to helping residents lead happy, healthy and fulfilled lives and involving them in fun activities like this helps to increase their sense of community belonging.”
Zara Labdouni, from Funky Potters, commented: “It’s wonderful to see the residents getting together, interacting and building friendships. I think they really enjoy it!”
This project is funded by Sanctuary’s Grand Ideas Fund, which is currently accepting applications from community projects benefiting Sanctuary residents and their communities.
